London Theatre

The home of Les Misérables, Blood Brothers, The Phantom of the Opera and We Will Rock You; the location of plays such as The Mousetrap, The Woman In Black and Entertaining Mr Sloane; the place where comedians such as Billy Bailey, Ross Noble and Eddie Izzard showcase their talents. It must be the West End, the stage capital of the world, where millions of theatre goers flock each year and performers, including actors, comedians, singers and dancers, arrive to find their big break.

London’s theatre district goes by many names. Some just call it London theatre or Plays in London whilst others refer to it as London’s West End. As well as those, there are people who refer to it simply as ‘Theatreland’, a district that encompasses over forty venues and just as many unique shows. With locations that include the Apollo Theatre, St Martin’s Theatre and the Garrick Theatre, it is a place where the theatres are historic and the plays are just as significant.

Names such as W G R Sprague won’t mean a lot to many people, but when you are in the West End, his name along with many others should mean a fair deal. This is because many architects helped design a great many of the theatres still standing today. Amongst Sprague’s work, for example, is the Ambassador’s Theatre, St Martin’s Theatre and The Aldwych Theatre. It means that his work is felt all around. When you are enjoying the Mousetrap and you look around at wood panelling and elegant design of the St Martin’s Theatre, you can think back to the great architects who designed it.

The fact that various architects were hired again and again makes the theatres in the capital linked; they are all of great historical importance with the auditoriums still retaining their Victorian construction, with designs that hark back to Roman times of ages gone by. It means that there is no better place to catch these world famous productions.

With a West End theatre ticket, you could enjoy ballet, opera, plays, musicals, comedy and cabaret, plus much more. But as well as these forms of entertainment, the tickets will also grant you access to wonderfully historic theatres; locations where people have been enjoying great performances for well over the last century.
